ASP Hosts 56th Annual Fragrance Symposium

On February 8, The American Society of Perfumers (ASP) held its 56th Annual Fragrance Symposium.

In the morning, Cutler Whitman, vice president of sales for Fragrance Resources, moderated a round table discussion among seven top executives, including Sixth Scents’ Marian Bendeth, Coty’s Marsha Brooks, Givaudan’s Kate Greene, The Estée Lauder Companies’ Karyn Khoury, Macy’s Linda Levy, JV Fragrances & Skincare’s Nicholas Ratut and Slatkin & Co.’s Harry Slatkin.

Topics of discussion included holiday 2009, the current consumer mindset, flankers, the global market and blogging.

That afternoon at a luncheon, awards were bestowed to three industry notables. Designer John Varvatos received the Legend Award from GQ’s Pete Hunsinger; Jack Mowen received the Lifetime Achievement Award from consultant Richard Loniewski; and James Krivda—senior perfumer and vice president of Mane, New York Creative Studio—received the William Lambert Award from the company’s vice president of fine fragrance, Frederic Jacques.

Danny Boome, host of the Food Network’s Rescue Chef, offered business advice and shared a foodie’s perspective on fragrance as the event’s guest speaker.
