FGI Names 13th Annual Rising Stars
Keynote speaker Nina Garcia kicked off Fashion Group International’s (FGI) 13th annual Rising Star Awards with a rousing speech, calling this year’s nominees “the great innovators of this century” and urging aspiring designers to “be your most out-of-the-box self. Be bold, get in our faces, make some noise. Challenge us, astonish us.”
“We have been at the forefront of recognizing new and emerging talent for thirteen years,” said Margaret Hayes, president of FGI. “We’re exceedingly proud of all our recipients, including past awardees Francesco Clark of Clark’s Botanicals, Tory Burch, Jason Wu and Phillip Lim, who continue to grow their businesses.”
In beauty and fragrance, W magazine beauty director Jane Larkworthy presented the corporate award to International Flavors and Fragrances’ (IFF) Juliette Karagueuzoglou. In the entrepreneur category, hair guru Frédéric Fekkai presented the award to Sphatika International’s Janet League-Katzin.
Other winners included: Amanda Pearl for accessories, Dror for home/interior design, Monica Rich Kosann for fine jewelry, Commonwealth Utilities for men’s apparel and ODIN New York for retail. For women’s RTW, there was a tie between Altuzarra and Peter Hidalgo.
