FIT Fetes Grads at Capstone

FIT bulletinGraduating students of the cosmetics and fragrance marketing program at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) showcased their final projects at the Capstone 2009 ceremony, held on May 13 at FIT’s Katie Murphy Amphitheatre.

Student groups were paired with industry leader mentors—including the NPD Group’s Karen Grant, P&G’s Marc Pritchard and WSL Strategic Retail’s Candace Corlett—to present on this year’s theme, “New Intelligence for the New Economy.”

Following the presentations, Wall Street Journal reporter Ellen Byron moderated a Q & A panel with team leaders that touched on: the new face of aging, urban consumers, the new middle class and new paths of communication.

Scholarship awards were then presented to Link’s of London’s Suzanne Della Pella, M.A.C’s Bill Hughes, L’Oréal USA’s Melinda Katz and BPI’s Kory Marchisotto.

Elizabeth Arden’s Virginia Graham and L’Oréal USA’s Laurie Lam were named outstanding scholars and were also department medal recipients.

The Victoria’s Secret Beauty Recognition for Outstanding Leadership went to Mr. Hughes, while The Estée Lauder Companies Faculty Leadership Award was presented to Karen Young of The Young Group, an adjunct instructor of cosmetic product development.
